Regardless of the level of sophistication in technology each of us feels we have, more than likey we have at least heard of You Tube, a website that has allowed people to post video clips and allowed others to view them. You Tube has recently announce something very exciting in its release of You Tube Shows found at http://www.youtube.com/shows .
The folks at You Tube have assembled hundreds of television shows and movies and offer them for free. The potential for classroom use is incredible and my guess is the collection will continue to grow. Many of the current offerings have potential classroom use and the direct linking capability makes them very easy to use.
Some of the options include;
Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Winter Comes to Cougar Country
Scientific American Frontiers Cybersenses
And hundreds of others check it out and let me know what you think,
Mike

Michael,
ReplyDeleteAre you familiar with Discovery Education?
http://streaming.discoveryeducation.com/
It used to be called United Streaming and they have hours and hours of educational videos that are easily searchable and many with lesson plans. It's an amazing site that I've been using for a few years now.
Enjoy!
One other site that I enjoyed was the NASA site (they also have one on YouTube although I have not gone there)They keep a webcam on the current operation, but you can go to any one of their featured videos. If you are are science teacher or teach science among other subjects, this is a site worth checking out.

Thank you Mike. Everyone but me likes movies - they take too long. I'm sure my students would love them.
ReplyDeleteWhile I was looking for a URL to share, I found something that interested me a lot. It is a British site with movies and animations of a Biological nature. These are not for everyone - only Biology teachers (my certification area). Who else gets excited when watching an animation of viral reproduction? If any of you does a science module in your classes, like Josh, here is the URL: http://www.webschool.org.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=196&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
