Education Week published its 2009 Technology Counts report which in part grades states in their current use of technology.
Take a look and see how your favorite state did. http://www.edweek.org/media/ew/tc/2009/26stc.pdf
It would be interesting to compare the assets used in the states that scored well with the resources spent on teacher professional development in the technology arena.
Anyone have any thoughts on that? Let me know what you think.

Mixed bag isn't it? I was under the delusion that Florida had computer based assessment. Also the teacher training applies to new administration and teachers. We do not require older teachers and administrators to be retrained, which surprises me. Do you feel things will improve or, since we do seem to be in the top half overall, will things stay the same?
ReplyDeleteI would like to see both of those expenditures. I think It would tell us exactly how important technology was to each state.
ReplyDeleteIn particular, I would like to see Florida begin to assess the technology skills of not only the students but the teachers
(IC3 certification requirement?). If minimal expertise were required, wouldn't sufficient technology have to be required
too? (http://www.certiport.com/Portal/desktopdefault.aspx?tabid=229).
And Nancy, I don't think there is going to be much movement with this economy.
I am havng a problem finding research that would tell us exactly what instructors should know about technology. I can only make the point that if IC3 has been accepted for students, maybe that is the place to start for teachers. Does anyone know of anything that speaks to requirements of college instructors?
